weekdays never looked more bright, than with a beer & a deviled egg flight!

After our trip to Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. to see Don West in concert got canceled, we started bouncing around new ideas for things to do. I remembered this article that I had saved from my copy of Our State Magazine a few years ago for day trip ideas, and we’d wanted to try going last fall. That was until Hurricane Helene tragically hit the area and left the town shut down without water. A year later (better late than never!) we decided that last Friday was a perfect time to load up Rye and make the 2.5 hour trek out to Mebane, NC to check out Bright Penny Brewing’s famous Grandma’s Eggs — and some beer, of course ๐Ÿ˜‰

We arrived downtown just after noon, and pulled up to the historic Rice Flour and Feed Mill building that is now home to the brewery.

(Heads up that if you do plan to bring your dog, they are SUPER pet friendly but dogs must remain leashed and outside. Their beer garden is perfect to chill in on a sunny day, but they also have a large covered patio area that is adjacent to the garden and it is heated in the wintertime!)

Knowing this, we ventured around the left side of the building and found a cozy corner in their empty back beer garden that was looking really spooky cute for Halloween ๐Ÿ‘ป

Their bartenders were very attentive and friendly and they quickly brought us menus outside as we got settled in. We had the option of ordering from the table via a QR code or inside. Easy enough, they will deliver straight to your table. Our “millennial” was showing, and so Phil chose to run inside and place our orders from a nice human at the bar ๐Ÿ˜†

Phil ordered a beer & I tried a flight to sample a few. We both tried their Oktoberfest, but our FAVORITE that deserves an honorable mention is their seasonal Spooky Spice pumpkin beer! It is best enjoyed with a cinnamon sugar rim, of course (#iykyk)! We definitely grabbed a 4-pack of it to-go so that we could share with friends at home around our firepit next week before Halloween.

And now for the main attraction – THE EGGS!! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿฅš

We started off with TWO flights of “Grandma’s Eggs” and lemme tell ya, those lil’ devils were divine! Love that we had the opportunity to sample a few because they offer flights. We had to try a Doreen (shout out to my Mom, lol!) but our favorite was the Lorraine that we both saved that one to try last. Who knew tomato sauce and a pepperoni would be such a flavor bomb! It really inspires me to wanna spice things up at home with this cute deviled egg plate that I thrifted at my favorite local antique shop last year.

Fear not, we didn’t only consume eggs…and beer. For lunch we ordered their steak chimichurri pizza to split and Rye got the tiniest test bite of some crust! We were all very impressed overall with their in-house kitchen.

Afterwards, we ventured over to the downtown shops & boutiques located just a couple of blocks over from Bright Penny. The downtown streets were charming and I could have spent several hours popping into the variety of stores along the main street. The locals were so kind too. We stopped into Solgarden since they were dog friendly and I got a couple of festive Halloween decorations that were almost half off!

surprise, it’s rye โ™กโ™ก

It was an afternoon well spent in Mebane, and we hope to explore more of it again one day really soon!
